The Winter Olympic Games are the main topic in the world nowadays but we have also started our canoe slalom season recently. At Australian Open in Penrith (18.2), Jiří Prskavec had a really great start of the year. He got silver and his team mate and the reigning world champion Ondřej Tunka also made it to top ten.
Sunday clashes closed this year´s program of the first ICF Canoe Slalom World Cup in Prague at the artificial slalom course in Troja. Next year, Prague will host another major canoe slalom event – The European Canoe Slalom Championships (1-3 June 2018).
German competitor Sideris Tasiadis managed to repeat his victory from C1 semi-final and gained his first gold ever at the ICF World Cup. Silver medal went to Slovak Matej Beňuš and bronze to Italian Raffaello Ivaldi.
The best ten women in the world clashed in the final of the women´s kayak at the first ICF Canoe Slalom World Cup in Prague this Sunday (18). The victory went to Spain thanks to a clean performance of Maialen Chourrat. Silver for Kimberley Woods of Great Britain and bronze to Germany thanks to Ricarda Funk.
Sunday morning at the ICF Canoe Slalom World Cup in Prague belonged to women kayakers. There were two Czech boats among the thirty fastest participants in the semi-final. Ten best boats qualified for the final in the afternoon. Unfortunately for the Czech colours, the final gates stayed closed for them.
Three Czech boats were on the start of the Sunday´s semi-final of C1 men category in Prague. But the home crowd will not have the local hero in the final fights. The best performance was showed by German competitor Tasiadis. The first from the Czechs on the start was only 18-year-old Matyáš Lhota who lost the hope already on the third gate with the 50 penalty.
Saturday's World Cup Programme in Prague ended with the Extreme Canoe Slalom Cross race, which was dominated by Mike Dawson from New Zealand and domestic Amalia Hilgertova.
Gold and silver medal is hanging on neck of two Czech kayakers. It was amazing race for Vít Přindiš, who won semifinal and later became World Cup winner in K1 men category. Best of Czech kayakers made clean ride in 88,55 seconds.
British national colours dominated in the C1 women final, when Kimberley Woods and Mallory Franklin won gold and silver medal. Behind them, the Czech competitor Monika Jančová winning the second medal for the organiser of the ICF Canoe Slalom World Cup.
The C2 men category has its winners in Prague. Jonáš Kašpar with Marek Šindler confirmed the shape after the bronze from the European championships in Tacen and took gold in Prague.
Semi-final in Prague proved the potential of the canoeists in Prague. The new built course was at first tested by the canoe double crews, followed by the semi-final competition of women canoeists.
