Three days of top-level racing and the Paddleride as a starter
The Canoe Slalom World Cup returns to Prague-Troja. From June 27 to 29, 2025, the artificial slalom course will welcome the best competitors from around the world. The race in Troja is the third stop of a total of five events in the International Canoe Federation (ICF) World Cup series. Home favorites will be present at the start, led by Tokyo Olympic champion and recent European champion from Paris Jiří Prskavec, as well as European silver medalist Gabriela Satková. The week full of canoe slalom will traditionally begin with the Paddleride, which this year is eagerly awaited even by the athletes themselves.
Paddleride – a unique experience you won’t find anywhere else
The Paddle Ride is an exceptional event unlike any other in the world. Fans and athletes have a unique chance to paddle together on the Vltava River – and only once a year. This year, the Paddleride will take place on Sunday, June 22, starting at 1:00 PM. Paddlers traditionally embark in front of the UK FTVS Boathouse in Troja and head down the river.
Kayaker Vít Přindiš, co-organizer of the event, plans to personally participate again after a while:
“This year I want to paddle the Paddleride again. Thanks to the week-long break between World Cup races, we hope that foreign athletes will join as well,” Přindiš says.
Vít Přindiš is also more involved in the organization this year:
“I used to be active in the organizing committee, but in recent years I stepped back a bit due to competing. This year I have no national team obligations, so I’m happy to help. Surely Jiri Rohan will assign me some tasks – extra hands are always welcome,” adds the 2022 world champion.
New race format: short slalom
The main innovation this year is the new race format – the so-called short slalom, which will take place on Friday, June 27. The course will be about 60 seconds long and will include approximately 12 gates. This format allows competitors to contest two sets of medals – similar to kayak cross, where medals are awarded for timed runs and knockout rounds.
Jiří Rohan, director of the organizing committee who has been involved in organizing the races since 1999, says:
“The greatest reward for me is the success of home competitors and the satisfaction of the spectators. That motivates me to keep going.”
“Last year we were surprised by the high water level, and had to change the schedule and safety measures. But the feelings are always the same – first tension, then anticipation, and finally emotions depending on the results,” Rohan adds. He has big plans for the future:
“We would like to complete the project of a new slalom course that would allow hosting European or World Championships at a higher level.”
Friday in Troja free for schoolchildren
Friday, June 27, the last day of the school year, is an ideal opportunity to start the holidays at the Canoe Slalom World Cup. Admission is free for pupils and students of elementary and secondary schools!
“The races are not just a top sporting event. It’s a great chance to spend time outdoors, by the water, in a friendly atmosphere, with unforgettable experiences,” invites Jiří Rohan all schoolchildren and their parents.
Tickets are sold exclusively online; there will be no traditional box offices on site. We recommend purchasing in advance – discounted prices apply until June 25. Children under 140 cm enter for free, as do elementary and secondary school students on Friday, June 27.
