European medals will be distributed in Prague again

JH 00093It seemed that the actual coronavirus situation would not allow the canoe slalom events to distribute the major medals this year. However, after the successful meeting of the ECA and the Prague organisers it was agreed that the cancelled European canoe slalom championships moves from London to Prague – Troja. It will happen on 18 – 20 September 2020 instead of the planned ICF Canoe Slalom World Cup.

„We are honoured that the paddlers will come to Prague – troja and fight for big medals again. We are very glad that we got this chance to organize this event. The ICF World Cup was moved to October originally, which caused us technical troubles due to planned savage reconstruction. So, the event in September is much more acceptable and even more pleasant for the paddlers and fans. Also, our business partners agreed on the future cooperation on this event, so we thank to Uniqa, ČEZ and the Capital City of Prague for their support,” said the head of the organising committee Jiří Rohan.
It will be a great chance for the Czech athletes to defend the European titles as Amálie Hilgertová and Vít Přindiš got the gold medals last year on kayak.

„Same as for the athletes, it is a big challenge for us as the organisers. We want to bring a high quality event in a very short time. But I am positive we are able to manage this despite the hard times. We all believe that we can get over the coronavirus problems and I want to thank my colleagues that they supported this idea,“ added Rohan.

Prague will host the continental championships second time in the history (third time in the CZE). ICF Canoe Slalom World Cup will come back to Prague again in June 2021.

The European championships will also be a part of the Olympic selection for Tokyo 2021.
